Guys, I am at my wits' end. My engine blew up, and we got me a jspec engine. This is a good time for a turbo upgrade, if ever. I have to make a decision which turbo to get. I want a quick, speedy and powerful turbo for daily street and freeway driving at a reasonable cost. I ran a zillion of searches on the ttnet and via search engines. I have read about most of the possible upgrade option: Sport 500s, 600s, 650s, HKS 2530s, Greddy's TD04, TD05, TEC stage 1 and 2 (is that identical to SGP's stage 1 and 2??) and the different shops Turbonetics, Turbo City and what else. There does not seem to be any agreement whatsoever on a good, reasonably-priced choice. Greg Dupree swears by Sport 500s as the most bang for the buck for daily driving with stock-comparable lag and minimal installation costs since it is a direct bolt-on. Others would not consider the 500s because it is too mild an upgrade. Some report it is a nifty speedy very efficient little upgrade for street driving too blast away most other vehicles out there. So I was looking for something a little more powerful than the 500s without more lag. I hear that the Sport 600s have considerably more lag and do not kick in until 4200rpm. Then I read in old posts (1998 or so) about TEC stage 1s which are comparable in power to the 600s but spool up much quicker--and I think "mmh" that sounds good. So I call Greg Dupree, and he says: "Absolute piece of junk!" Guys come to him with smoking TECs left and right. Okeeey--so much for that. Then I read about ball-bearing Turbonetics. What is their price range, and are recommended by anyone? Are they bolt-ons, or what has to be modified--any fricking modification costs money! To summarize: I want a nifty powerful little everyday streetracer--but not for $4,000! I am willing to spend $2,500 at the most. If there is anything more expensive that fits those criteria, I would consider a used (not rebuilt) one. And I do not want to spend tons of money on the modification for their installation. thanx from the heart, brothers
